Hermitage Fine Art – Monaco. Full-time permanent position (CDI)

Hermitage Fine Art, an established and growing auction house based in Monaco, is seeking a Registrar & In-House Photographer to join its dynamic team.

The primary focus of this position is the registration, identification, organisation and physical tracking of artworks and objects held in the auction house's stock. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that incoming and existing lots are accurately registered, labelled, photographed and stored, and that their location and status are kept up to date at all times.

The role also includes in-house photography of artworks and objects for auction catalogues and online presentation, as well as general operational support within the auction house.

This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced, interesting and at times intense auction environment. We are looking for a positive, energetic and reliable person who enjoys taking responsibility, is able to work effectively under pressure and is motivated by being part of a growing auction house.

Key Responsibilities

Registration & Stock Management – Primary Responsibility

• Receive and register incoming artworks and objects in the auction house's internal system;
• Ensure that each object is correctly identified, numbered, labelled and linked to the appropriate client and consignment;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all objects held in stock;
• Record and continuously update the physical location and status of each lot;
• Organise artworks and objects within the auction house's storage areas;
• Carry out regular stock checks and inventories;
• Track movements of objects between storage, photography, expert examination, exhibitions, auctions, collection and shipment;
• Prepare and locate objects for experts, cataloguing, client viewings, photography and auctions;
• Ensure that sold and unsold lots are correctly prepared for collection, shipment or return;
• Handle artworks and objects carefully and in accordance with appropriate conservation and safety practices;
• Assist with the installation and dismantling of auction previews and exhibitions.

In-House Photography

• Photograph artworks, jewellery, collectibles, furniture and other objects;
• Produce clear and consistent professional images for auction catalogues, the website and online bidding platforms;
• Carry out basic image editing, cropping, background removal and optimisation;
• Correctly name, classify and archive photographic files;
• Ensure that photographs are accurately linked to the corresponding lots.

General Auction House Support

As part of a small and dynamic team, the successful candidate will be expected to be hands-on, flexible and versatile and to assist with other operational tasks when required, particularly during auction preparations, exhibitions, valuation days and events.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who is:

• Positive, energetic and solution-oriented, with a constructive approach to day-to-day challenges;
• Highly organised, methodical and attentive to detail;
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and able to remain calm, focused and efficient during particularly busy auction periods;
• Able to take initiative and work autonomously, without requiring constant supervision;
• Responsible and committed to following tasks through to completion;
• A strong team player, willing to support colleagues and contribute wherever needed;
• Comfortable working with databases, inventories and large numbers of objects;
• Able to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures;
• Responsible and careful when handling artworks and valuable objects;
• Equipped with good photography skills and an understanding of studio lighting;
• Familiar with Adobe Photoshop and/or Lightroom;
• Practical, adaptable and comfortable dealing with changing priorities;
• Proficient with general IT tools;
• Professionally proficient in French and English, Italian is a plus.

Previous experience within an auction house, gallery, museum, collection, art storage facility or similar environment would be an advantage.

We are particularly looking for someone who enjoys organisation, accuracy and working directly with objects, while also appreciating the energy and variety of the auction world. The ability to maintain a reliable and well-organised stock system will be central to the role.
