Groucho’ (lower right) dated 23 February 1953 (on the reverse) 26 x 21 cm Provenance: Private collection, South of France Groucho Marx (Julius Henry Marx) was an American comedian, famous for his acting method characterized by the fast speech, the use of puns, a lighthearted irreverence and an ill-concealed contempt for social conventions. His distinctive appearance included an exaggerated stooped posture, spectacles, cigar, and thick blackened moustache and eyebrows. This photograph depicts him while hosting «You Bet Your Life», a comedy quiz series aired on radio-tv, which he presented from 1947 to 1961.
