Author's dedication on the first free page: "Milym Mishkam / Sergey / 1921." ["To the dear Mishkas / Sergey / 1921."] The autograph is addressed to the writer Emil Krotky (1892-1963) and his wife, the poet Elizaveta Styrskaya (1898-1947). "She and the writer Emil Krotky, her husband, had the same patronymic. They were referred to as 'The Krotkys came...'." S. Esenin was friends with the Krotky family. "He liked to give nicknames," Emil Krotky recalled, "and he called me and my wife 'Mishkas' based on my home name." In 1921, S. Esenin gave the Krotkys a copy of "Pugachov" with the autograph: "To the dear Mishkas Sergey" (Zinin S.I. S.A. Esenin i ego okruzheniye: Biobibliographic reference https://zinin-miresenina.narod.ru/profile1.html). The work on the dramatic poem "Pugachov" began in late 1920. Esenin decided to travel to the "Pugachov" places, and in April 1921, the poet went through Samara to Orenburg, then to Turkestan, visiting Central Asia and the Urals. The poem was first published in 1922 (effectively December 1921) by the "Imaginists" publishing house, followed by editions in Petrograd and Berlin in the same year. The edition by "Imaginists" had a print run of 1,000 copies, compared to 5,000 copies by "Elzevir." Sergei Alexandrovich Esenin (1895-1925) was a Russian poet and writer. He was one of the prominent figures of the Silver Age, representing the movement of new peasant poetry and lyrical imagery in his later period.
