ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR FROM THE COLLECTION OF ALEXANDER BENOIS showing celebrations with music and dances in a Russian izba (peasant’s house). In Tankov’s oeuvre we nd many paintings showing everyday life and festivities of Russian peasants in the best traditions of Romanticism.
Tankov (1739 - 1799) having studied under Matvey Puchinov and Antonio Giambattista Peresinotti at the Chancellery of Construction (1756–69) was awarded the title of academician in 1785 for his painting depicting life in a Russian village.
