The third collection by O. Mandelstam, as the first two editions of 'Kamen' ['Stone'] differ significantly from each other in content. The book was dedicated to 'N. Kh.' — Nadezhda Yakovlevna Khazina, the poet's wife. She recalled: ''The Second Book' he compiled from memory: he remembered poems, dictated or wrote them down, looked at some, discarded others.'
