group in polychrome enamelled porcelain with gilt highlights, on a naturalistic rocky base forming a mound. The scene depicts a young shepherd couple seated in an intimate embrace. The shepherd, with black curled hair, dressed in a yellow jacket and purple-striped breeches, places a rose in the shepherdess’s hair. The shepherdess, holding a shepherd’s crook, wears a laced bodice and a white skirt richly decorated with hand-painted polychrome floral bouquets. A naturalistic sheep and a flower-filled basket complete the composition. Fine quality execution of the facial features and drapery. Moulded and decorated in period after the original model created in 1771 by the sculptor Michel Victor Acier (1736–1799). Marks: Meissen factory mark ‘crossed swords’ in underglaze blue, model number ‘G 1211’ incised by hand in the soft paste, painter’s number ‘55’ in red enamel on the glaze. 18 x 14.5 cm Condition: good period condition.
