A moment of America’s history is Going Up
for Auction in 16 Days
Hermitage Fine Art has announced the contents of its upcoming Autumn Manuscripts, Autographs, Photographs, and Rare Books auction, and it’s quite the lineup.
The October 28th auction will include photographs, of world icons like Audrey Hepburn and Salvador Dali, original manuscripts from J.R.R. Tolkien, and none less than four Presidents of the United States. . . all in one picture.

The Autumn auction will contain a whopping 115 lots that range in expected price from € 50 all the way up to € 25,000 for an autograph letter in which the celebrated J.R.R. Tolkien shared with his illustrator that he was “overwhelmed by all the Lord of the Rings business”.

But the star of the show is a photograph of Jimmy Carter, George Bush, Gerald Ford, and Bill Clinton (then acting POTUS) along with their respective spouses, Ladybird Johnson, and Nancy Reagan. This historical photo has been taken in the occasion of the inauguration on November 6, 1997 of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and is expected to fetch between € 20K and € 25K.

Other iconic images you’ll find on sale at the Monaco auction of October 28th include the photos below of (in order) of the legends Groucho Marx, Sophia Loren, Clint Eastwood, and David Bowie, and Jane Birkin.

These photos and more will be on view to the public* starting October 26th, with the auction itself happening on October 28th at 2pm Central Eastern Time at the prestigious Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo.
