inscribed in Cyrillic and dated ‘Oranienbaum /4 iunya ..8.’ (lower right) Executed circa 1891. The present drawing is inscribed ‘Oranienbaum’, the historical name of the town now known as Lomonosov. It is situated approximately 40 kilometres west of Saint Petersburg on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. Oranienbaum is renowned for its 18th-century imperial palace and park, and the surrounding forest was a popular destination for artists working en plein air. Shishkin is known to have stayed in the vicinity of Oranienbaum and created numerous sketches in nearby Mordvinovsky Park in spring 1891. Upon the buyer’s request, we are pleased to provide a general condition report for the Lot described above.
