Precious and vast collection of about 2,500 books, manuscripts, engravings and documents, from the XVI century to the modern era, covering all aspects of gastronomy, from princely tables to bourgeois or popular cuisine, especially in Italy and France: famous or yet to be discovered works, theoretical or practical, general or specific, sometimes illustrated, testifying to the same love of good food among the greatest cooks and the humblest private individuals, bearing witness to the most learned research as well as to the most authentic traditions specific to so many areas. Modest copies, many with traces of use and gaps, sometimes incomplete, as is often the case in this field of bibliophily. A small set of books concerning the fine arts and some kitchen utensils is attached. This exceptional set will be sold as is, in a single lot, and will not be exhibited. Eugenio Medagliani, born in 1931, is a major figure in Italian haute cuisine and international gastronomy. He is the grandson of Pasquale Medagliani, who founded the Hotel Medagliani in 1860, one of Milan’s oldest companies, renowned for the quality and diversity of its kitchen equipment. A supplier and advisor appreciated by the greatest chefs and restaurateurs, but also by all lovers of cuisine, an intellectual with a passion for history and art, a collector and a craftsman, his warehouse soon became a wonderland. He founded «Bibliotheca Culinaria» in 1990, a publishing house in Lodi, specialising in gastronomic publications, which distinguished itself several times in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards (international competition rewarding the best cookery and wine books) as the best publishing house and for the quality of its books. In 2017, he was appointed honorary president of the Italian Federation of Chefs and chief editor of «Il Cuoco» (official magazine of the Federation). Eugenio Medagliani has led a life dedicated to his passion, made up of research, culture and discoveries, giving rise to a unique collection of books and art objects.
