After the fall of Robespierre, the 132 notables of Nantes (reduced to 94 by ill-treatment), sent by Jean-Baptiste Carrier before the Revolutionary Tribunal in Paris, demanded to be tried. The investigation turned against the members of the Revolutionary Committee of Nantes.
Guillaume Alexandre Tronson du Coudray (1750-1798), Marie-Antoinette’s lawyer, then pleaded for two of Jean-Baptiste Carrier’s co-defendants, Proust and Vicq, whom he considered innocent. The indictment of the members of the Revolutionary Committee of Nantes was made public on 16 October 1794: embezzlement, squandering, theft, brigandage, abuse of authority, immorality, abuse of power, murders and assassinations, etc.
