Umberto Brunelleschi was an Italian painter, illustrator and costume designer who settled in Paris around 1900. Initially known for his caricatures and illustrations for leading French magazines, he became one of the notable illustrators and decorative artists of the Art Deco period. He illustrated numerous luxury editions, including La Nuit vénitienne by Alfred de Musset, whose Venetian setting and elegant costumes were particularly suited to his decorative style. He also worked as a scenographer and costume designer for theatre and music halls.
