Lagoda-Shishkina’ (along the lower edge) pencil on paper 23 x 30 cm Valentina Antonovna Lagoda-Shishkina, younger sister of Olga Antonovna Lagoda-Shishkina, Ivan Shishkin’s second wife, became a member of the artist’s household following Olga’s death in 1881 and remained closely associated with the family until the painter’s death in 1898. As custodian of Shishkin’s estate, she played an important role in preserving and cataloguing his artistic legacy and frequently added handwritten authentication inscriptions to unsigned drawings and studies originating from the artist’s studio. The present drawing bears such an inscription, attesting to its authorship by Ivan Shishkin.
