signed in Cyrillic in pencil ‘G.A.V. TRAUGOT 2001’ (lower right) hand coloured etching on paper 40 x 29.5 cm (à vue) Executed in 2001 G.A.V. Traugot refers to the artistic collective formed by Georgy Traugot (1903-1961) and his sons Alexander Traugot (B. 1931) and Valery Traugot (1936-2009), key figures of book art in Leningrad–Saint Petersburg. Working across painting, sculpture, and graphic art, they devoted most of their creative energy to book illustration. Their earliest projects were created together with their father, giving rise to the collective pseudonym G.A.V. (Georgy, Alexander, Valery), which became emblematic of the Leningrad artistic milieu. Their work has been widely exhibited internationally and awarded numerous prizes. It is held in major collections including the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Hermitage Museum, as well as in public and private collections across Europe and Japan.
