Beklemisheva …. 1958 Tchernovtsy’ (on the reverse) oil on board 24.8 x 34.4 cm Irina Mikhailovna Beklemisheva was a Soviet painter and draughtswoman born in Ukraine. She came from a distinguished artistic family and was the niece of the renowned sculptor Vladimir Beklemishev (1861–1919), former Rector of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. Trained in the 1920s, she developed a body of work devoted to landscapes, still lifes, and scenes of everyday life, distinguished by its sensitive palette and keen observation of nature. Based in Kyiv, she exhibited regularly at Soviet art exhibitions and became a respected representative of the Ukrainian school of painting.
