Dmitry Borisovich Lion (1925–1993) was a Russian graphic artist and a prominent representative of the Soviet nonconformist movement. Born in Kaluga, he studied at the Moscow School of Art and later at the Moscow Institute of Architecture. After military service during and after the Second World War, he devoted himself to graphic art and teaching. From the 1960s onward, Lion developed a highly individual visual language that combined expressive drawing, calligraphy and philosophical reflection. His works have been exhibited at major Russian museums, including the Russian Museum in St Petersburg and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
