Oklad: silver, stamp, engraving, filigree, gilding Hallmarks: master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘AS’; assay master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘A.K.’ above the date 1881, ‘84’ silver standard mark and the coat of arms of city of Moscow wood, levkas, tempera, gold leaf 31.2 x 26.3 cm Condition: overall good condition, minor dirt and retouching. The icon is of considerable collector’s value as an example of high artistic execution, originating from Old Believer icon painting workshops in Central Russia. The silver oklad, remarkable for its rich ornamentation and Russian jewellery art of filigree (scan), lends the image a particular refinement.
