Oklad: silver, stamp, engraving, gilding Hallmarks: master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘BAP’; assay master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘A.K.’ above the date 1881, ‘84’ silver standard mark and the coat of arms of city of Moscow; metal plate with a blessing inscription in Cyrillic: ‘Blessing to F.D. Pupyshev from Metropolitan Ioannikiy of Moscow, 18 September 1886’ (on the reverse) wood, oil 31.2 x 26.3 cm Condition: overall in good condition, small fragmentary retouching on the face. The icon represents a considerable historical and artistic value. Metropolitan Ioannikiy (Rudnev, 1826-1900) was a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church and a prominent religious figure in imperial Russia at the end of the 19th century.
