The original work was created about a year after Fernand Léger married Nadia Khodasevich-Léger, who became his second wife in 1952. This lithograph is believed to have been personally gifted by Nadia Léger in the early 1960s to the USSR’s trade representative in France, in gratitude for his assistance in preparing Fernand Léger’s first exhibition in Moscow.
