silver bust of Peter the Great in tunic and laurel wreath on the column decorated with monogram of Peter I Hallmarks: ‘84’ silver standard, master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘MOROZOV’ with imperial double-headed eagle, assay master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘A SH’ between the city arms and above the date ‘1896’ marble base H. 34 cm (total 37 cm) total gross weight (including the marble base): 2,457 gr. Founded in 1849 by Ivan Yakimovich Morozov, the Morozov firm was located in Gostiny Dvor in St. Petersburg. It owned two workshops, one for jewellery and one for silverware. The firm became renowned for producing silver cutlery for the emperor. Its output was comparable to that of other court jewellers, such as Fabergé. Later, the company passed to the founder’s son, Vladimir, who inherited it. In 1894, Vladimir also began working with the imperial court. The firm occupied a leading position in the pre-revolutionary jewellery market.
