Sheet 21 x 21 cm - Vignette 3.5 x 4.8 cm Jean Auvigne French artist, painter, illustrator and poster designer, specialising in maritime posters. The Normandie is a French liner of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, built in Saint-Nazaire. Entering service in 1935, as the largest and fastest passenger ship afloat, is still considered to be the most beautiful and luxurious ocean liner ever built. In February 1942, the liner caught fire while being converted to a troopship, capsized and, although salvaged at great expense, restoration was deemed too costly and she was scrapped in October 1946.
