1) Autograph letter dated 1st December [19]80 signed «Chapelain Midy». 1p. In French. Included: Photograph signed «Chapelain Midy» of his portrait of General De Gaulle (Oil on canvas. Background of architecture, on which stands out the full-length portrait of General De Gaulle. On the right a table on which are placed, 1 sabre and 1 book on which he leans his left hand). «... Very touched by your kind letter, I am sending you herewith the photo you wish and inform you that my portrait of General de Gaulle will soon be reproduced...» 2) Autograph letter dated 30 April [19]82, signed «Chapelain Midy». 1p. In French. «… These are just a few quick words as I am swamped with late mail. I am indeed illustrating the apocalypse of St. John, which... will be published in October (probably)... I am still working on it now. Thank you for your kind wishes...» Roger Chapelain, also known as Roger Chapelain-Midy, was a French painter, lithographer, illustrator and theatre designer. He was commissioned by Valéry Giscard d’Estaing (then President of the French Republic) to paint a portrait of General de Gaulle for the Élysée Palace in Paris.
