signed and dated ‘Max Cartier 1987’ (on the base) pan, mixed media H. 42 cm Max Cartier began his professional life as an actor, and his first film (now legendary) was Luchino Visconti's 'Rocco and His Brothers'. Then, after opening a restaurant in Nice, he discovered a passion for sculpture. From then on, he worked and exhibited, exploring different materials and drawing inspiration from a wide variety of everyday forms such as shoes, masksand eggs. He shapes his works using poor or worn materials such as plaster, scrap metal, ceramics or even stone, to create unique works with entwined and tangled figures. In 1987, he created a series of sculptures using frying pans of star-studded Chefs.
