Bound in contemporary brown basane, spine ribbed and decorated, spine ends decorated but rubbed, hairline faded, spine ends slightly split, a handwritten name scratched on the title page. Complete with the two maps but lacking the frontispiece portrait of Moulay Ismail, includes in fine, a French-Arabic glossary of some terms. Captured by privateers from Salé and held prisoner in Rabat, Fez and Meknes from 1670 to 1681, the author wrote this history during his captivity. A history of the life and conquests of the first two sultans of the Alawite dynasty of Morocco, Moulay Rachid (1631-1672) and Moulay Ismail (1645-1727). The book also provides valuable information on trade with Morocco, the lives of Christian slaves captured by the Barbary pirates, and daily life in Morocco at the time. Germain Moüette French writer.
