signed and dated ‘Saetti 73’ (lower right) sanguine on paper laid on canvas 71 x 49.5 cm Peintre, né à Bologne en 1902, Bruno Saetti est formé dans le milieu bolognais, étudiant à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts, il expose en 1927, lors de sa première exposition personnelle au Cenacolo F. Francia, des peintures de personnages et de paysages qui révélaient déjà une maturité picturale et une force de structure, marquées par une manière austère et essentielle. En 1930, après avoir obtenu la chaire de dessin de figures, il s’installe à Venise où il enseigne à l’Accademia, dont il est également directeur de 1950 à 1956. Et c’est précisément à Venise qu’apparaît l’autre élément caractéristique de sa recherche, une sensibilité chromatique cultivée et raffinée. Présenté dans les plus importantes expositions en Italie et à l’étranger, bénéficiant également d’une reconnaissance considérable (récompensé à la Quadriennale de Rome en 1939 ; à la Biennale de Venise en 1952 et 1962 ; à la Biennale de São Paulo en 1953 ; … Saetti est également l’auteur de nombreuses œuvres monumentales (fresques pour l’église de S. Eugenio et pour l’église de l’American College à Rome ; mosaïque pour l’église de S. Giovanni Battista sur l’Autostrada del Sole. A student at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, Saetti exhibited in 1927 his first solo show at the Cenacolo F. Francia, with paintings of figures and landscapes that already revealed a pictorial maturity and a strength of structure, marked by an austere and essential manner. In 1930, after obtaining the chair of figure drawing, he moved to Venice where he taught at the Accademia, becoming its director for 6 years. And it was precisely in Venice that the other characteristic element of his research appeared, a cultivated and refined chromatic sensitivity. Presented in the most important exhibitions in Italy and abroad and enjoying considerable recognition, Saetti was also the author of numerous monumental works (frescoes for the church of S. Eugenio and for the church of the American College in Rome; mosaic for the church of S. Giovanni Battista on the Autostrada del Sole.
