Label Artist: KAREL APPEL (1921-2006) Dutch painter Karel Appel is one of the founders of the COBRA group, a movement that exalts a baroque expressionism liberated from the post-cubist tradition. The first Dutch painter to illustrate the label of Mouton Rothschild, Karel Appel, for the 1994 vintage, imagined a couple of drinkers dancing a frantic jig around a totem bottle, as if to liberate the spirit of the wine that is still imprisoned in it.
