Oil on cardboard signed ‘E Chambon 48’ (upper right) 40 x 32.5 cm executed in 1948 A Swiss painter and illustrator, Emile Francois Chambon was close to cubist painters such as Roger de Fresnaye and Jean-Louis Gampert. However he adopted his own style, especially after his first visit to the Louvre in 1928, where he discovered the masterpieces of Rembrandt, Rubens and Géricault that inspired him. Chambon is known for his thoughtful yet very instinctive compositions, his harmonies of blue, green, brown and grey, his sense of humor and his high geometrisations, which are sometimes exaggerated.
