The journal ‘Illustrated Russia’ was founded in Paris in 1924 by Miron Petrovich Mironov, on the model of the pre-revolutionary illustrated literary and artistic weeklies so familiar to Russian émigrés. From 1929 the journal had a free literary supplement, the ‘Library of the Best Russian and Foreign Writers’ (24 volumes a year). From the outset the leading writers and poets of the emigration published in its pages. It was printed on fine coated paper with elegantly designed covers, a number of them by well-known Russian artists - F.A. Malyavin, K.A. Korovin, D. Stelletsky, A.E. Yakovlev, B.V. Zvorykin, F. Rojankovsky, I.Ya. Bilibin, A.N. Benois and others.
