The title, inscribed on the reverse, refers to Konarmiya (Red Cavalry), a famous series of stories by Isaac Babel inspired by his time with Semyon Budyonny’s cavalry during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920. Mullyar was a distinguished illustrator of Babel’s literary works and frequently explored themes drawn from Russian and Jewish cultural history.
