All pamphlets in this convolute were issued in the series 'Narodnoe izdanie' of the bookshop of V. Dumnov, under the imprint 'Nasledniki brat'ev Salaevykh'.
Vladimir Vasilievich Dumnov (1854–1926) was a publisher and bookseller who, from 1885, headed the firm Nasledniki brat'ev Salaevykh in Moscow (having married a niece of F. Salaev). Under his direction the firm became widely known for publishing school and gymnasium textbooks and educational materials, as well as works of fiction (including Gogol). In 1893 A.F. Marx purchased from Dumnov, for the then unprecedented sum of 150,000 roubles, the exclusive rights to publish Gogol’s works.
