Cloth spines with faded gilt tooling. In good condition. Wear to the bindings, losses of paper to the boards, a crack to the text block (Vol. 1), dampstaining at the beginning of the text block (Vols. 2–3), minor soiling, foxing. Pre-revolutionary stamp 'Maria Alexandrovna Silina' on the endpapers (Vols. 2–4). A lifetime collected edition of the works of Vladimir Ivanovich Dal (1801–1872), issued by A.F. Smirdin in his series Complete Works of Russian Authors. By this time Dal’s name was already widely known, and the four-volume edition enjoyed great success. A complete set is rare.
