Adolphe Torelli held the position of head barman in the finest hotels on the French Riviera, notably at the Winter-Palace in Nice. His book contains the first written mention of the ‘Americano’ cocktail (lemon zest, Campari, red vermouth, sparkling water). He was a pioneer of cocktail culture in Europe.
