From the mid-1960s he specialized in modernism and the Russian avant-garde and was personally acquainted with the famous collector the avant-garde, George Costakis. Together with art historian Andrei Sarabyanov he conceived of and edited 'Encyclopedia of the Russian avant-garde' [RA, Moscow 2013 -2014].
