Tovstonogov’, signed again and inscribed (on the reverse of the board) gouache on paper laid on board 24 x 33.3 cm executed in 1950 The present work is a stage design for a production of Sobaka na sene (The Dog in the Manger) by Lope de Vega at the Griboedov Theatre. Georgy Tovstonogov, Russian-Georgian theatre director, was a director at the Griboedov theatre in Tbilisi and first staged this play there in 1942.
