Oklad: silver, embossed, engraving, filigree, gilding Hallmarks: assay master’s mark in Cyrillic ‘A.S.’ above the date 1869; ‘84’ silver standard mark and the coat of arms of city of Moscow wood, gesso, gold leaf, tempera 31.2 x 27.2 cm Condition: overall good condition, oklad in good condition, icon – minor interventions, chips along the edges The image of the Holy Face of Christ is flanked by Saints martyrs Cyricus and Julitta, George, Bogolep of Chorny Yar and Eudokia. Saint Bogolep was a young monk who lived in the 17th century, died at the age of 7 and was canonized in the early 20th century. In this icon, he is depicted as an adult monk, which is a mystery and an iconographic rarity.
