Roman Petrovich Tyrtov was a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, set designer, fashion designer, and sculptor of the Art Deco era of Russian origin who worked in Paris and Hollywood. He is known by the pseudonym Erté (French, composed of the first letters of his first and last names), which he took “so as not to disgrace his family” of aristocratic origin.
