Minor scuffing of the binding, slight damage to the corners of the covers, foxing. Alexander Vasilyevich Vereshchagin (1850–1909) – brother of the renowned battle painter Vasily Vereshchagin, a professional soldier and participant in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878, later promoted to Lieutenant General (1908). In retirement, he devoted himself to literary work and memoir writing, offering valuable firsthand accounts of 19th-century Russian military and social life.
