The icon ‘Sergius’ Vision’ illustrates an episode from the Life of the Saint Sergius of Radonezh, compiled in the first half of the 15th century, when the Mother of God, accompanied by the apostles Peter and John, appeared to the saints Sergius and Nikon, announcing her favour to the monastery founded by the saint. The witnesses of the miracle were overwhelmed with joy and shock, and St Sergius himself became mute for a while.
