3 double pages. At the end of the text are multiple autographs of members of the Society: ‘Buonaparte’ (Joseph), ‘Olivetti,’ ‘Santelli,’ ‘Benedetti,’ and others. 'Citizen representative, Public salvation demanded death..., and the tyrant is no more... How many prejudices, how many interests fought for him... But you saw only the Fatherland, and the Fatherland is saved...‘ Letter from members of the ’Society of Friends of the People" (La Société des amis du peuple), originally a secret revolutionary society in Corte, Corsica, which changed its name in December 1792. Joseph Bonaparte was a member of this society. The letter was probably written After the execution of Louis XVI (21 January 1793). The text expresses approval and praise for the act and its benefits for the people, and mentions the creation of the Republic. Joseph Bonaparte (1768-1844) was the elder brother of Napoleon I, King of Naples from 1806 to 1808 and King of Spain from 1808 to 1813 under the name Joseph I Napoleon.
