1 pp. bi-folio in-4, some splitting to folds. Written at the time Prince Eugène was proposing that Baron d’Arnay remain as his private secretary: (...) I was delighted to see that you accepted my proposal. You may remain in Paris for ten, twelve or even fifteen days in order to complete your postal matters and your own affairs. After that, I will await your return with great impatience (...). He also mentions forwarding a commission via his valet, Leroy. Eugène Rose de Beauharnais (1781-1824), member of the French imperial family. Born from the first marriage of Marie-Joseph-Rose de Tascher de la Pagerie (known as Joséphine de Beauharnais, first wife of Emperor Napoleon I from 1796 to 1809), he was officially adopted by Napoleon in 1806. He had a brilliant military career before being appointed viceroy of Italy. He was one of Napoleon’s most loyal and talented subordinates, who made him general-in-chief. He commanded the IV Corps during the Russian campaign. His loyalty to the Emperor earned him the respect of all. After Waterloo, he took refuge in Munich, where his father-in-law named him Duke of Leuchtenberg, and he devoted himself to his estates.
