Letter from Murat in his capacity as ‘Lieutenant of the Emperor’ supporting the candidacy of Mr Auguié, Postmaster for the Senate, to the President of the electoral assembly of the department of Cantal:
(...) I recommend his appointment to your good offices, convinced that the voters cannot fail to choose someone more deserving (...). Mr Auguié enjoys public esteem and the confidence of the Government, and all the members of the Senate will welcome (his) appointment (...).
Joachim Murat, Marshal of the Empire, brother-in-law of Napoleon, was one of his most flamboyant and daring cavalry commanders. Appointed Grand Duke of Berg and Cleves in 1806, he became King of Naples in 1808.
