The Battle of the Moskow or Battle of Borodino was a battle between the Grande Armée commanded by Napoleon I and the Imperial Russian Army led by Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov. It took place on 7 September 1812 near the village of Borodino, 125 kilometers from Moscow. Napoleon chose the name Moskow for this battle, in reference to the river that flows several kilometers from the battlefield.
