Approximately 160 pages, mainly in 4° format (36x22.5 cm). In Russian. UNIQUE AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT ABOUT HERO OF THE PATRIOTIC WAR 1812, BARCLAY DE TOLLY. Weymarn’s work ‘Barclay de Tolly and the Patriotic War of 1812’ was first published in the pages of Russkaya Starina in the anniversary year of the war with Napoleon (1912. Aug. pp. 172-207; Sept. pp. 301-331; Oct., pp. 108-135; Dec., pp. 631-652). It was one of the first extensive works devoted to the activities of M.B. Barclay de Tolly (1761-1818). ‘... To supplement these sketches... with new materials – various notes, family documents and Barclay’s own notes and correspondence – is the task of this work, whose only merit lies in the truth: Barclay’s life is not afraid of daylight, and to flatter it would be to disrespect his memory...’. Fedor Petrovich Weymarn (1831-1913) was a Russian lieutenant general, son of Lieutenant General Petr Fedorovich Weymarn (1795-1846), who fought at Ostrovno and Borodino. PROVENANCE: Barclay de Tolly-Weimarn family archive.
