silver, cast, engraved, mounted, gilt. Hallmarks: 84 silver mark, coat of arms of Moscow, assay master (unreadable) over the date '1889', maker 'PS' 19 x 15.4 x 6.8 cm. gross weight: 278 gr. The workshop was founded by Pavel Sazikov in 1793. By 1810, it was already referred to as a ‘factory’, indicating a significant expansion in production. Pavel's son Ignace (1796 - 1868) opened a branch in St Petersburg in 1842. In 1846, he obtained the status of supplier to the Imperial Court and the right to add the image of the double-headed eagle to his company's brand image. He won several prizes at international and Russian exhibitions. Sazikov's company is considered to be the founder of the Russian style in the art of jewellery. Sazikov's range included stylised objects such as laptis, baskets, village houses and utensils.
