Studied at the Odessa School of Art (1895–1900), and at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1901–1911) under I. E. Repin and D. N. Kardovsky, and in the engraving workshop of V. V. Mate (1912–1914). Co-founder of the "Sixteen" group (1922).
