Zhar-Ptitsa (The Firebird) was a literary and artistic magazine published by the Russian émigré community between 1921 and 1926 in Berlin and Paris. The chief editor was the renowned art historian and artist G. K. Lukomsky, with the literary section headed by the distinguished poet Sasha Chorny. Editorial and financial management were undertaken by A. E. Kogan, while the technical side was supervised by B. G. Skamoni, former director of the Golike & Vilborg printing house and publishing firm.
The magazine featured contributions from major figures of Russian culture, including A. Yakovlev, B. Grigoriev, V. Shukhaev, S. Sudeikin, A. Benois, K. Somov, M. Chagall, B. Kustodiev, F. Malyavin, N. Goncharova, and others.
A total of 14 issues were published. Issues 4 and 5 were released under a single cover as the Christmas issue. Issues No. 1–13 were printed in Berlin, while No. 14 was published in Paris.
The magazine’s edition was approximately 300 copies.
