André Levinson’s renowned work on the life of Léon Bakst was printed in Berlin by A. Kogan for the New York publisher. The English-language edition was produced in a smaller print run. The French edition had 500 copies.
Léon Bakst (real name—Leyb-Khaim Izrailevich, or Lev Samoilovich Rosenberg; 1866–1924) was a legendary Russian artist, stage designer, book illustrator, master of easel painting and theatrical graphics, and one of the key figures of the World of Art movement and Sergei Diaghilev’s theatrical-artistic projects.
