DENIS IVANOVICH ZUBRITSKY (1777-1862) – historian and ethnographer, one of the leaders of the Russian movement in Galicia, Corresponding Member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Most of his scholarly publications were written primarily in Polish, less frequently in German, with some works published in Russia in translation in the Journal of the Ministry of Public Education, Readings in the Society of Russian History and Antiquities, and other periodicals.
In his work, Zubritsky addressed a sensitive topic for the Rusyns. Though personally inclined toward Orthodoxy, he remained a Uniate until the end of his life, as the Orthodox Church in Galicia had been suppressed, leaving no surviving parish churches.
