The first book with which the young Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy made his debut in print was published under the pseudonym "Krasnorogsky" (the name of an estate), concealing his real surname. The author himself did not attach much importance to this Gothic work and did not include it in his collected works. Only in 1900 was "Upyr" republished by Vl. Solovyov. The 1841 edition was printed in an extremely limited number of copies and over time became a significant bibliographic rarity.
The author's first book.
