Two title pages in Russian and French. The frontispiece is in color autotype. 32 black-and-white lithographic illustrations glued on both sides on sheets of wall paper from the Likhachev factory. In the publisher’s illustrated cardboard binding, covered in floral-patterned paper. A paper label with the title and author’s illustration is affixed to the front cover. In good condition. Edge wear and minor losses to the cover paper, spine reinforced, minor stains along the spine and page edges, slight soiling and reinforced fragments of the label on the front cover. Ownership’s label appliqué with the letters “L” and “S” on the title page. Boris Dmitrievich Grigoriev (1886 - 1939) was an prominent Russian artist, a notable representative of avant-gardism, one of the most prized and enigmatic, one of the greatest portraitists; he was a recognised master of graphics and a skilled book illustrator. The artist gained early recognition, but was forced to emigrate from Petrograd during the Civil War. Living in the west, the artist did not forget his roots and preserved his love for his homeland. The album ‘Raseya’ is one of the most large-scale works of B.Grigoriev, the main graphic cycle, depicting in a grotesque manner the images and types of modern Russia. First edition.
