Aleksei Ivanovich Malov (1787-1855) was a renowned St. Petersburg preacher and served as the archpriest of St. Isaac’s Cathedral (1836-1855). He was a religious instructor at the Engineering and Artillery Schools, as well as in the Schools of Guard Ensigns and Cavalry Cadets. In his book, the author explains to soldiers and officers “what is truly beneficial to them and what they should be cautioned against.” The purpose of this book was to “inspire in the warriors a spirit of faith, loyalty to the sovereign, and other military virtues.” The book pays significant attention to the Old Believers – “schismatics,” which is a rare topic for the early 19th century. Of great bibliographical rarity.
